Drew Goddard In Talks to Direct the Next SPIDER-MAN Movie!

Every new piece of information that slips out regarding the new SPIDER-MAN movie is making me more and more excited, and today's latest bit of information is no different.

Latino-Review dropped a HUGE scoop today when they announced that Drew Goddard will be writing and directing the next SPIDER-MAN movie. Now, I trust Latino-Review as they are usually the first to break the big Marvel news, but since all of the others trades are cautioning that Goddard will not meet with Marvel until Tuesday regarding the matter, I'm using "in talks" instead of "set".

Here are the details from Latino-Review:

There has been much reported on and some news neglected in recent weeks.  Kevin Feige and the Marvel team will be producing the new series at Sony in what is envisioned as a three part series to come out over consecutive summers.  There is talk about calling the series SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN after yet another Marvel comics series ala the last films being called “Amazing.”
Key things to look for in the new series
·         No new origin story, Spidey exists from the beginning, taken as a given
·         New actor, probably an unknown, he will be specifically based in High School and they want him to be able to grow up into the role.  The thought being if this works, Spidey can do multiple trilogies for years ala Harry Potter.
·         A major part of the first film will involve Spider- Man fighting Iron Man and then trying to pass the “audition” to join the Avengers
·         The first film will involve the Sinister Six coming together with the thought to later maybe spin them off.
I know the brave Reddit Warriors are talking about Dylan O’Brien but of the guy is 23 and already in a series, I doubt he’s the guy- and in fact casting will not begin for a number of months yet while Sony and Marvel cross the t’s.
One thing is for certain- the Supreme Leader of North Korea will NOT cameo in the new series.
So there you have it. Drew Goddard will not only direct the new Spider-Man film but he will also write it..
I haven't been this excited since Joss Whedon was announced as directing THE AVENGERS.

The Wrap also had a few new details to share regarding this news:
[Update 2:50 PT: Insiders caution that Drew Goddard doesn’t quite have the job yet, telling TheWrap, “Drew has not yet met with Marvel but will soon; along with several others.” Other sources describe Goddard as the heavy favorite and say it’s unlikely he would pass on the project if it was officially offered to him.]
(For those doubting Marvel would get final say with the new SPIDER-MAN movies, the above tweet makes a very good point. If Goddard hasn't meant with MARVEL yet, that clearly indicates Marvel has the last say here.)

Again, while most of the trades are cautioning that this is not final and that Goddard is in early talks still, Latino-Review IS a legit source. They broke the SPIDER-MAN news a whileeee before Marvel and Sony announced anything. They dropped the Chadwick Boseman as BLACK PANTHER bit almost a year before Marvel. They also announced GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY before Marvel. So yeah, I trust them on this.

And one final bit of SPIDER-MAN news that I saved for the end, in case you'd rather avoid spoilers for where SPIDER-MAN may appear in the MCU... other than CIVIL WAR:
The site's source says that there won't be an origin in this new film - they're just jumping right in. That makes sense, as Spidey will be appearing in other Marvel movies first (we all expect him in Captain America: Civil War, but I've been told he will ALSO show up in Doctor Strange. We'll see!).
How do you feel about this news?

And yes, unlike Reddit, all of those sources listed above ARE legit.

First Look at Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk in DAREDEVIL.

With all of the DAREDEVIL stuff that has come out recently, until today, we hadn't really gotten a good look at Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk. But with the show a little over a month away, it looks like Marvel is ready to start peeling back the curtain a bit more.

These photos don't show much, honestly, but they are still exciting simply because it's Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk. D'Onofrio is a damn good actor, and I can't wait to see him in action. His casting is easily one of the best casting decisions they've ever made.

USA Today also has a brief interview with D'Onofrio for DAREDEVIL in which he talks about how he wanted to present the character:
"I just brought in this kind of character who in one sentence could easily go from being a child to a monster, depending on where his emotions take him," says D'Onofrio (Law & Order: Criminal Intent).

"I wanted him to have an appearance of being super-powerful so that when he throws a punch, it's a major punch," D'Onofrio says. "There's a lot of weight behind it."

Clip #2 for Episode 2x11 of AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Featuring Skye!

AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. officially returns tomorrow night, and I couldn't be more excited. Season two has been fantastic from the very beginning, and judging by all of the tweets I've seen regarding tomorrow's episode? We're really in for a treat.

In this latest clip, tensions fly high as Skye starts to notice something isn't quite right with her.

Be sure to tune into AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC tomorrow night at 9PM EST, and feel free to join me in the live-tweet!

Robert Downey Jr. Hosts Charity Contest to Attend the AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Premiere.

If you'll recall, last year, Mark Ruffalo hosted a contest through Prizeo that allowed one winner and a guest to attend the set of AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. (You can read more about that here.) It was a pretty cool contest, and it was something I enjoyed entering as not only did it help raise money for a cause, but it did provide a fair chance at a once in a lifetime opportunity. That's the same thing with this new contest Robert Downey Jr. is hosting - this one is through Omaze. While Mark partnered with Water Defense for his Prizeo contest, Robert Downey Jr. has partnered with Julia's House for this contest.

You can donate/enter by going here. You'll need to donate a minimum of $10 to Julia's House in order to be entered into the drawing for a chance to attend the AGE OF ULTRON premiere. There are some pretty cool perks for those able to donate higher amounts, so if you're looking for some nice AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON exclusives, you can always donate more. (And by more, I mean a lot more than the $10 minimum.)

Donate some cash for a good cause and you'll be entered for the chance of a lifetime.

HAWKEYE Character Poster for AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON.

Jeremy Renner unveiled the character poster for Hawkeye over on Twitter earlier today, and like with the other character posters, it's a heck of a lot better than that group poster:

Here are all of the character posters so far:

My guess is that Chris Evans will either unveil his CAPTAIN AMERICA character poster either today or tomorrow. I'm also hopeful that we'll get an ULTRON poster, as well as posters for QUICKSILVER and SCARLET WITCH, but we'll see!

Five Things I’d like to see from A.K.A. JESSICA JONES.

I only read ALIAS last year, after the Marvel/Netflix deal was announced. Before then, I’d seen some panels posted online, but hadn’t really gotten around to starting ALIAS. (It also hadn’t helped that the book wasn’t available in print when I went to purchase it, and the series isn’t available on Marvel Unlimited.) Once I finally read it, I completely understood the hype.

Sure, there were some parts near the end that were disgusting. Still, the way that Jessica’s character is written, and how she evolves over the course of the story? It’s excellent.

With that said, here are five things I’m really hoping to see from A.K.A. JESSICA JONES:

1. When Eka Darville was announced as Malcolm, I was pretty freaking stoked. He isn't a huge character in the series, as he only appears every now and again, but he does play a part in a pretty big arc in ALIAS. (More on that later.) I love their relationship in the comics, and if the show stays close to it? I'll be a happy camper.

2. Given that DAREDEVIL has already completed filming and these shows are all connected, I'm really hoping we'll get a Matt Murdock appearance. Along with Luke Cage, he's featured a decent amount in ALIAS as he's Jessica's lawyer after she gets into a bit of a mess. She also acts as his bodyguard down the line, so I'm really hoping Matt shows up.

3. That they capture Jessica Jones from the comics. Jess is a bit of a mess. She drinks a lot. She smokes a lot. She's over the superhero life. But she's honestly a wonderful character. If there's anyone that could properly portray this character, it's definitely Krysten Ritter.

4. Mattie Franklin. Before the SPIDER-MAN deal was announced, I wasn't sure that Mattie would be a possibility. Now that Marvel can use SPIDER-MAN and his associated characters, I'm really hoping Mattie is written into the series. Even though her story is a bit troubling, it is a pretty important part of ALIAS. It also leads to a certain character appearing that I'm still waiting to see in the MCU. (See #5.)

5. Jessica Drew. She doesn't show up until close to the end of ALIAS, but seeing her interact with Jessica Jones is great. The chances of her appearing on A.K.A. JESSICA JONES? Pretty slim, I'd guess, but I'm still hopeful.

I didn't list Jessica's relationship with Luke Cage, because we already know that is guaranteed. Nor did I mention J. Jonah Jameson because I don't believe that's a possibility. Marvel would probably prefer to introduce J. Jonah Jameson into the MCU in a movie. But who knows? Anything is possible!

What are you hoping to see on A.K.A. JESSICA JONES?

Marvel Bits: 07!

If you missed out on the AWESOME MIX: VOL. 1 cassette tape (like me), Marvel has officially announced you can now purchase it through Disney Music Emporium. The price is $14.98 + shipping, which is a bit more than it was during the Record Store Day promotion. (I'm basing this off of what my local record store was selling it for - $9.99.) Still, this is a pretty neat item to add to your GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY/MARVEL collection, even if you don't have a cassette player anymore. ;)

Thanks to the Daily Mail, we now have more set photos from A.K.A. JESSICA JONES. Again, these don't reveal much of anything, but it's nice to see something from the show. (Photo Source.)

Marvel revealed the upcoming Hulk figures for AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON from Hot Toys, and well, it's pretty dang great.
And if you haven't already yet, be sure to purchase the poster above. It is the first of twelve limited edition prints that Marvel has ordered for the second half of season two. I've purchased my copy, and according to the order confirmation, the print will not ship for five weeks.

Here is the release schedule for the rest of the posters:
For those that missed my tweet, there will be an exclusive AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. prop replicia included in March's LootCrate:

There will also be an exclusive baby Groot item in March's Nerd Block:

For those of you that are part of the #StandWithWard fandom, this tweet should make you happy! It looks like one of those posters on the above schedule will be one you'll want to pick-up:

If you gave up on AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. early on, hopefully this nice little review from Entertainment Weekly will make you decide to tune back in:

And finally, some more details on AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON from director Joss Whedon:

”[Age of Ultron] got larger than the first film,” Whedon explains to Yahoo Movies. “I didn’t mean for it to get larger, but the climax that I pitched was completely unhinged and nobody said no, so that’s that.”

That's it for today's Marvel Bits!
